This week Alphonse Island was covered by a depression bringing overcast conditions, strong winds and heavy rain at times. This poor weather brought on a discussion amongst the guides that there are very few places that can still produce good fishing results with such poor weather. The choppy churned up water on the flats made it difficult at times, however this did not detour our guests as several caught over 20 Bonefish per day. Anders Nissan and Marcus Beale landed the 2 biggest Bones of the week weighing 6.5 and 7 lbs respectively. Alphonse Island comprises of a “black belt” bluewater team, and true to form in 3 half day sessions they managed to raise numerous Sailfish, 5 were hooked and only 2 landed due to the nature of these high flying adversaries. Along with 2 Sailfish, Dogtooth Tuna, GT’s and several other reef dwelling creatures were and taken on fly while fishing offshore. James Anderson was the GT magnet this week and landed 3 GT’s biggest of 94cm (38lbs). Michael Beck landed the biggest GT of the week, a very impressive 117cm (74lbs) which he landed in the dying stages of the second to last day of the trip. The weeks best result belonged to Anders Nissen who caught a “Flats Slam”comprising of a GT, Moustache Trigger and a Bonefish in one session. It should also be noted that the Moustache Trigger fish was one of the biggest ever landed on Alphonse. The “Bills and Bones Slam” belongs to Marcus Beale who achieved this on the last day by managing to nab a Sailfish in the morning, a Bone in the afternoon followed by a GT of 91cm (35lb) which made the day even more special.

Tight lines form the Alphonse Fishing Team.
