Week 14 was another fantastic week of fly fishing on Alphonse Island. It was started off with Richard Tarn landing a Permit in the morning of the first days fishing. Albeit not the biggest Permit on the flat, but a Permit nonetheless. The famous Cuban saying of, “There is no such thing as a small Permit on the end of your fly rod” suited that fish perfectly.
The Bonefish fishing has continued to produce high numbers of fish with several fish topping the scales over 7lbs. An impressive amount of 354 fish were caught. After most of the guests having their full of Bones, they turned their focus onto the other species this diverse Atoll has to offer.
Hendrick Enslin hooked into and unfortunately lost a huge “life changing” GT towards the end of the fight. However his wife Marlene Enslin managed to land a 15lb GT and a Napoleon Wrasse.
GT fishing was started off slowly, however with the ever increase tidal differences as the days went on more fish were being seen and hooked. This led to a respectable number of 8 fish landed and about half a dozen more hooked but were lost. Paul Lambardi managed to land the biggest GT of the week 108cm and weighing in at 60lbs. He also landed two smaller GTs on the last day of the trip. Leo Kotelinikov landed 2 impressive GTs and lost the third. John Cremer caught a very impressive Giant Trigger fish, the only one landed this week.
Over all a very enjoyable and solid weeks fishing on St François.
Tight lines from the Alphonse Team.
