The Gaula fishing season 2015 started in early June quite slow, due to a cold spring in Mid-Norway and a late salmon migration into the coast. From mid June until early August the weather on Gaula valley was mostly cold and somewhat rainy which suited well for fishing and catches that period were good. In August we experinced a long, warm and dry period with low and warm water with difficult conditions and slower fishing. In late August, before the end of season the weather changed to a colder and rainy and fishing improved again.
In total the Gaula River has experienced a good fishing season 2015. It has been especially the 2 sw medium size salmon weighing 4-8 kg that have run into the Gaula River in very good numbers, based on a good grilse run last year 2014. During the summer 2015 there were massive numbers of 789 two sw salmon released from Trondheimfjord research bagnet. Respective numbers for the season 2014 was 307 medium sized salmon and 452 medium sized salmon were released summer 2013. This season 2015 the grilse run to the Gaula has been good as well, this years grilse run almost reached the numbers of 2014.
So the expectations for the next season 2016 are very high for a fantastic run of 3 sw big salmon weighing 8-15 kg, with also a good run of 2 sw medium sized salmon weighing 4-8 kg. The numbers for the grilse run next season is more difficult to predict.
