Tikchik Narrows Lodge was started in 1969 by Alaska sportfishing pioneers Bob and Gayle Curtis in the waters of Bristol Bay. At that time the Curtis’s owned and operated Wood River Lodge and Bob used to fly up to the Tikchik Narrows to take his anglers fishing. Bob always considered the Tikchik Narrows of the Bristol Bay area to be the best fishing around. He would walk up on top of the rock knoll at the tip of the peninsula and dream of building a lodge there, which he did in 1969 when he sold Wood River and devoted his time, money and love to Tikchik Narrows Lodge.
Tikchik Narrows Lodge offers great fishing right in front of the Lodge. Every summer, we can watch the Sockeye Salmon swim past the Lodge from our deck. Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Arctic Char, Arctic Grayling and Northern Pike can be caught in the “Narrows” in front of the Lodge.
Tikchik founder, Bob Curtis, selected this location because of the good fishing. Prior to building Tikchik, Bob Curtis owned Wood River Lodge and he would fly his anglers to the Narrows to fish. In the spring and summer, Lake Trout, Char and Rainbow Trout feed on the baby Salmon migrating through the Narrows. It is quite a sight to see a ball of seagulls and Arctic Terns diving into the water where the fish have pushed a school of baby salmon to the surface.
Tikchik also has excellent fishing available from Ver más...the Lodge by boat. Nuyukuk, Tikchik and Chauekuktuli Lakes offer terrific fishing along with the nearby rivers and streams. Usually, the largest Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, Northern Pike and Arctic Char are taken in the local waters around Tikchik. Our Bristol Bay Fishing Program will allow you take advantage of all of these fantastic opportunities.
